Seguim! :)

SPECIAL, awarded at the Photogenic Festival de Barcelona.

Last night my NGO partner, Alba Miquel, accepted the prize awarded to me by the photography festival Photogenic Festival, in the Emerging Photographers category.

The work I presented were the portraits I took – during my stay in the Manawala Complex in Amritsar (India)- of boys with special needs. My intention was showing how wonderful they are and how happy their lives are there.

I was very suprise to receive the prize, especially because within my same category there were more seasoned, better-known photographers such as Javier Corso or Ana Becerra, to name some.

The photographers featured in the festival had been previously selected in an international call for exhibitions, open throughout March. The selection was made by a jury consisting of well-established profesionals and professors in the sector such as Antoni Bernad, Maria Espeus, Peret and Carlos Pericás.

I am very happy because this award implies a huge validation, both on a personal level as well as on the Creativity Photo Project, which is the project I have been working on for the past 2 years in an altruistic, voluntary and self-funded way.

This also recharges my batteries and my motivation to continue with even more impetus if necessary. This, together with the recent creation of NGO be artsy (www.beartsy.org) is going to be, I think, pivotal to give visibility to our new project in Nepal: a project centered on girls and women, to combat the stigma around menstruation (Chhaupadi), from February 2017! (Rato Baltin Project – Red Bucket Project)

Right now I’m offeringthe Creativity Photo Project workshops in a marginalised area of Buenos Aires. I’m working with a community heavily threatened by drug addiction-related problems, extreme poverty, gang brawls and violence – and the stigma around it – and an incredible group of people who are doing a gazillion things to build, from art, a better community.

Receiving this award at 10.500 km from home fills me with joy! :)
From here I would like to thank the organisers and the jury of the Photogenic Festival for this opportunity and award!

By the way, the photographs will probably be exhibited up until the 3rd or 4th at Room 28 or you can buy them at the online shop we created to raise funds for the project:

Upwards and onwards! :)
